Seeking polished, ultra-discreet, proactive, energetic, detail-oriented, hands-on House Manager, able to anticipate and identify needs and provide exceptional service. You will be able to support the Principal, whilst developing a professional camaraderie fitting of a warm, active, informal household. Female candidates only due to nature of some duties.
The role is to be responsible for the day-to-day management and running of a small London residence, which includes being fully hands-on in all areas and working in conjunction with the Assistant House Manager (whom we are also recruiting, along with a Private PA) to undertake all interior/exterior care and maintenance. Supervision of a small team (1-2 others currently), liaising with overseas properties/staff and ensure consistency of standards, procedures and services. A concierge style attitude and absolute discretion are key to this role.
Other responsibilites include, but not limited to –
- Supervise and co-ordinate onsite activities and day-to-day direction of onsite staff.
- Set the service standards for the property and staff.
- Manage staff, schedules and rotas and HR activities. Recruit, train, mentor and coach staff
- Manage budget, household account, invoice payments etc. Submit recreipts and reports/records to office
- Source and manage all contractors, vendors, trades, quotes and costings
- Supervise any renovation projects, track works, progress and costing.
- Both the HM and Assistant HM will be responsible for the care/cleaning of the property and cooking when the Principal is in residence. Healthy organic meals (and occasionally a small number of guests if required). The cooking is not difficult e.g. breakfast smoothie, lunch of soup, salad, crudité, dinner is a protein and veg or salad.
- Work in conjunction with overseas staff to ensure seamless transition for Principal between properties.
- Maintain and update household manuals and inventories.
- Point of contact and gatekeeper.
- Other responsibilities include seasonal routines, packages and deliveries, some diary management and cover of Private PA’s duties when she is on holiday
- Demonstrate high end design sensibilities and appreciation of aesthetic quality, knowledge of caring for fine interiors
- Travel with/to Principal when required up to 12 weeks total per year to various destinations (on rota with other staff). Pack/unpack, create a seamless ‘home from home’ experience when staying in hotels
- Plan, organise and manage events – dinners for 6-8 guests, cocktail receptions 15-20 guests, social and work events.
- Correspondence/ representation for Principal if required.

Salary: DOE £70K to £80K.
5 day week – When Principal is not in residence: Mon to Fri, 9.30 to 4.30 pm. Possible opportunity for shorter hours or extra days off when quiet to compensate for longer hours when travelling.
When Principal is in residence – Mon – Fri. The Assistant HM will work Tues – Sat, but you must be flexible to cover a Saturday during a visit if the AHM has something personal on that day. Both of you will work on an early/late shift rota – 8am-4pm or 1-9pm.
